A Local’s Guide to the Best Restaurants on the Coastside

There’s something magical about the Coastside. It’s more than the stunning cliffside trails, secret surf spots, and pastel sunsets — it’s the sense of community and creativity you can taste in every meal.

At Ocean Element Real Estate, we don’t just sell homes — we live here, raise our families here, and savor every bite this coastal stretch has to offer. Whether you’re a long-time local or new to town, here are some of our favorite places to eat, drink, and soak in the local flavor across Half Moon Bay, El Granada, Moss Beach, and Montara.

The Barn – Half Moon Bay

Casual, coastal, and full of soul — The Barn is the heart of the Coastside food scene. With open-air seating, farm-to-table comfort food (think: smash burgers, truffle fries, and their cult-favorite mac attack), and a buzzing community vibe, it’s where locals go to unwind.

Families love the enclosed beer garden — it’s kid-friendly without being kid-themed, and the turf lawn turns into an unofficial play zone while grownups sip on local craft beers and cocktails under the string lights.

Note: Matt Haugen, one of our Ocean Element co-founders, is also a proud co-owner of The Barn.

Blue Dragon Pho – El Granada

On foggy coastal evenings (and let’s be honest, we have a few), Blue Dragon Pho hits the spot. The broths are rich and aromatic, the egg rolls perfectly crisp, and the iced coffee is a must. It’s family-owned, full of heart, and one of those places where you’ll want to slurp every last spoonful.

Jettywave Distillery & Gibraltar Gems – Half Moon Bay

Jettywave Distillery is a local treasure for award-winning gin, bourbon, and beachy cocktails served in a laid-back outdoor space just steps from Pillar Point Harbor. But the real culinary surprise? Gibraltar Gems.

Their ever-evolving menu brings globally inspired dishes to the coast — think mesquite-grilled salmon, coconut rice bowls, and bright, bold veggie skewers that elevate the whole experience. It’s not your average food truck fare; it’s an open-air culinary adventure with a killer cocktail menu to match.

Ketch HMB – El Granada

Ketch HMB brings a fresh take to waterfront dining with oysters, crab benedict, and cocktails that shine as much as the harbor views. It’s stylish yet approachable — perfect for weekend brunch, date night, or a sunset happy hour with friends. Don’t miss the house-made sourdough or the ceviche tostadas.

Pasta Moon – Half Moon Bay

A longtime Coastside classic, Pasta Moon is where locals go to celebrate. The Italian menu changes with the seasons, but you can always count on handmade pasta, fresh seafood, and a cozy-chic vibe that never goes out of style. We love it for anniversaries, birthdays, or just because.

Moss Beach Distillery – Moss Beach

A legendary oceanfront restaurant with a view that stops you in your tracks. Moss Beach Distillery is known for its ghost stories (The Blue Lady!), warm patio fire pits, and killer Bloody Marys. It’s equal parts coastal charm and historic haunt. Bring a jacket and soak in the sunset.

Gherkin’s Sandwich Shop – Montara

No website. No frills. Just really, really good sandwiches. Tucked into Montara, Gherkin’s serves up local-favorite combos like turkey pesto, pickled veggie, and sourdough piled high. Grab one to-go and enjoy it on Montara State Beach — you won’t regret it.

Your Table Is Waiting…

Hungry yet? That’s the Coastside for you — a place where small-town charm meets serious flavor. Whether you’re dining al fresco at The Barn, sipping a gin and tonic at Jettywave, or grabbing a picnic sandwich in Montara, there’s always a seat at the table.
