Known for her ability to bring clarity, organization, and strategy to fast-paced environments, Melanie plays a vital role in the continued success and growth of the Ocean Element brand.

Melanie first joined the real estate world in 2019 as the Director of Operations at Element Real Estate. When the company evolved into Ocean Element Real Estate, she remained at the helm of operations—bringing with her years of expertise, a deep understanding of the business, and a passion for excellence. Her background in large employer health and life benefits has sharpened her project management, systems implementation, and leadership skills—making her a powerhouse behind the scenes and a steady hand in the face of change.

Melanie thrives on collaboration and takes pride in creating systems that allow agents and staff to do their best work. From launching new initiatives to refining internal processes and improving the client journey, Melanie ensures that every part of the business runs with intention, precision, and heart.

She is also uniquely positioned in the company as the spouse of Mathew Haugen, one of Ocean Element’s founding partners. Together, they lead with integrity and a shared vision, blending their personal and professional lives to build a brokerage that’s both high-performing and deeply community-centered.

A longtime Coastside resident, Melanie is proud to live and work in the community she loves. She and Mathew are raising a blended family of four children and are deeply involved in local life. A self-proclaimed sports mom, Melanie is a regular presence in the stands—cheering on her son during high school football games and supporting her younger son’s competitive surfing along the San Mateo County coastline.

When she’s not leading operations or supporting her family, you’ll find Melanie beachcombing for sea glass, walking the local trails, or traveling the world with Mathew and their children—exploring new cultures, collecting memories, and recharging by the water.
